Buying guide: Mexican Beer
Mexico is the world's largest beer exporter by value, and our beer catalog reflects that range: 156 listings from 27 brands, from Sol and other national lagers to independent breweries such as Cervecería de Colima (40), Hércules (19) and Baja Brewing (16). Sol listings appear first because the workbook was organised that way.
National brands and distribution rights
Many of the best-known Mexican beers belong to large international brewing groups that appoint exclusive importers in each country. Supply of those brands outside the authorised channel may be restricted or may not carry the right label for your market. When you request a national brand, we first check which channel can legitimately supply your destination and tell you if the answer is “through your local authorised importer, not us”.
Craft and regional breweries
Independent breweries in Baja California, Jalisco, Colima, Querétaro and elsewhere offer styles from pilsner and Vienna lager to IPAs, stouts and agave lagers. 28 beer listings published an ABV and 32 published a package size, most often 355 ml bottles and cans in 12- and 24-packs. Craft brewers may need advance notice for export labels and minimum production runs.
Freshness, storage and transit
- Ask for production and best-before dates; quote validity should match a realistic shipping window.
- Hop-forward and unpasteurised beers benefit from refrigerated containers; lagers in brown bottles or cans tolerate ambient transport better than clear or green glass.
- Beer is dense: a full container often reaches its weight limit before its volume limit, which affects the cost per case.
- Returnable bottles used in Mexico's domestic market are not suitable for export.
Labels and versions
Research notes show that some beers exist in Mexico-only and export versions with different names or formulations — for example, Sol products brewed in Mexico for the US market versus domestic Sol products. We confirm the exact version, label language and destination-specific statements before quoting. Alcohol-free beers such as Tecate 0.0 and Modelo 0% are listed under hydration and alcohol-free alternatives.
